SKIN CARE APPLICATION DESIGNER

More than 95% of the products manufactured in Belgium are exported world-wide.

Skin Care Application Designer



The Challenge
We need a dynamic skincare application designer who is able to proactively develop new skin testing methods, contributing to demonstrating the consumer benefits of our market leading ingredients. The job holder will be a key member of the skincare development team, having a major role in generating long term value and growth for Dow Corning by constantly seeking to demonstrate the performance and application of our innovative materials.

Location could be Shanghai (China), Midland (US) or Seneffe (Belgium)

The selected candidate will have knowledge of the fundamentals of skin structure and function and current skin testing methodologies used in the beauty care industry, gained through relevant experience.  The job holder will be able to use this knowledge to identify and demonstrate new opportunities for our innovative materials in skin care, sun care and colour cosmetics applications. The candidate needs to be able to translate consumer benefits driven skin care performance needs into material properties and to work collaboratively with material development teams and strategic marketers to develop the next generation of innovative Dow Corning personal care ingredients. Knowledge of silicone chemistry or formulation with silicones would be desirable but is not essential.

His/her Key responsibilities will be :
  • Evaluation of material efficacy, consumer appeal, physical stability, processing capabilities and cost effectiveness of innovative materials and formulations.
  • Identify best-in-class consumer benefits testing capabilities to support Next Generation projects to generate long term differentiated product offerings and new opportunities for our materials
  • Protect our innovative materials and their applications through intellectual property to safeguard Dow Corning's research and development investments
  • Generate new insights into material performance that can allow the world’s leading beauty care companies to offer new consumer benefits through the use of Dow Corning technologies.
  • Proactively interact with the material development and applications teams to work in multi-functional teams to develop new opportunities to demonstrate the benefits of our materials and formulations.
  • Correlate structure-function relationships of Silicone and Silicone derivative materials in formulations to provide new direction in material development and new consumer benefits.
  • Be able to work in a truly global organization, collaborating with teams in such diverse locations as China, India, Europe and the Americas, with the project management and communications skills that this approach requires.
  • Proactively work with skin care marketing team to determine and understand customer needs, expectations and market trends in order to apply product technologies to meet beauty care requirements and deliver differentiated silicone technology able to provide consumer perceivable skin benefits.
  • Continue to develop fundamental knowledge of skin physiology and structure in key areas prioritized by the Skin Care market team and leverage this knowledge to generate new opportunities for Dow Corning.


The profile

The ideal candidate
  • Master's or higher level degree in cosmetic science, formulation science or applied chemistry. Minimum of five years of personal care formulating experience.
  • Ability to generate new and creative approaches to new product development and problem solving with flexible thinking
  • Experience in developing skin care formulations through product development experience on the bench and contact with product manufacturers or key raw material suppliers.
  • Experience in application testing to demonstrate formulation benefits (to highlight skin care industry  directions e.g. anti-ageing, moisturization,
  • Dynamic, strong project leadership, pro-active attitude
  • Experience formulating with silicones is an advantage but not a requirement for position
  • Ability to manage priorities of projects with changing priorities
