Global Research and Development Leader

The challenge

Dow Corning seeks a Global R&D Leader to provide scientific leadership for our broad, multimillion dollar healthcare group that provides Silicon-based materials to the pharmaceutical, medical device and wound care markets. In this role, you will be the visionary, evaluating trends in emerging technology development and setting strategic direction for Dow Corning’s product innovation pipeline. You will lead an organization of 40 employees and be responsible for all external collaborations, sponsored research, open innovation and joint development work within the Health Care (HC) Business Unit. This role can be based in our offices in Seneffe- Belgium or Midland - US.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Global R&D Leader will be an active member of the Health Care Leadership Team (HCLT), setting health care strategic direction and managing the business portfolio. You will propose, shape and implement new technology platforms and programs that support the next generation of investments aligned with global healthcare mega trends and our business Mission. You will ensure technology development, progress of active programs and provide technical input to the HCLT for portfolio management purposes.

In this role you will develop a deep understanding of Silicon and how we can improve our current and future healthcare products. You will prioritize technologies and help build the appropriate business case to determine viable options for Dow Corning’s Health Care business. The Global R&D Leader will also oversee the HC patent management process and ensure that IP strategies are defined for new technology and business development.

Dow Corning’s Global R&D Leader will manage a team of senior scientists and professionals to research and develop healthcare solutions for our customers. You will staff, develop and maintain a passionate, technically solid organization focused on delivering innovative Silicon- based health care materials, medical devices and other novel delivery products. You will be responsible for your team’s technical and career development to ensure the success of the Health Care organization.


The profile

The ideal candidate:
·         Has a Master’s or PhD Degree in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Engineering, Biology  or  Chemistry
·         Has 10 years of experience working in or as a supplier to the healthcare industry
·         Has Industry or academic research experience in drug delivery, dermatology or other forms of personal medicine
·         Has already couple years of leadership experience (remote management is a plus)
·         Has change management and strategic planning capabilities
·         Can work independently, with excellent time management and judgment in prioritization skills.
·         Is able to work cross-functionally and able to collaborate effectively in team, department, or other work group situations.
·         Is  able to balance short-term deliverables as well as long-term technology development in a balanced portfolio
·         Is able to manage by Influence management and able to make decision (understands when to divest/stop technical developments)
·         Has strong business acumen with customer relationship experience
·         Has IP Leadership knowledge
·         Can complete multiple tasks and see them through completion.
·         Is able to manage uncertainty and the ability to manage risk and consequences
·         React rapidly to evolving issues and dynamic scheduling situations with utmost discretion
·         In fluent in English and ready to travel internationally (25% of working time)
